First, drive to Pomeroy, Washington. Pomeroy is on Hwy 12 in the southeast corner of the state.
In the middle of Pomeroy, turn to the south at the sign for the Umatilla National Forest (15th St.). Stay on the pavement for approximately 15 miles, where you enter the Umatilla National Forest. (The road becomes Forest Service #40.) Follow FS #40, a gravel road, for approximately 7 miles. Turn Right on FS #4022 for less than 2 miles to the gate entrance on FS #015. At about 2 miles from the gate, Rose Springs Camp has an outhouse for changing and a place to stay for the night. There will be a changing tent near the gate. The total distance from Pomeroy is about 24 miles, 14 of it on pavement! No long grades. The roads will be well marked. |
